This began as a response to a fellow commenter on Propeller, but it got longer than I had anticipated, so decided to do it this way.  The question he had posed to me was “What would you do to make America better and stronger?” Below is my answer, but always open to improvement and additions.

I am a citizen of America, one who staunchly defends it (not its government always).  I admire the independence on which our country was founded.  It disturbs me we (individuals and government) no longer depict that independence.  Our forefathers’ big concern was “freedom”, and they warned against a government that became too strong, too large, too threatening.  They knew the nature of man and vice.

That said, what would I do to make America better and stronger?

I would start with removing bunches of the laws we now exist under.  Many are in fact unconstitutional, or so I believe.  Many are impossible to adhere to in any meaningful way.  Most are a waste of the trees cut down to provide the paper they are written on.  Our Congress is totally and completely incompetent.

I would push for term limits.  I would push for actual vetting of all candidates and that vetting would be displayed in advance of elections for all to see before they have to vote on a person.  I am not just talking about Obama.  I am talking about everyone who wants to hold public office and write our laws.  They should be squeaky clean, and we know for a fact they are not.  I would weed out duplicate programs.  We don’t need multiple agencies fiddling with everything.  I would eliminate all agencies that are not constitutional.  I would eliminate the word and effect of “czars”, a term begun years ago and which gets more bizarre as time goes on.  I would push for community unity, NOT party unity.

I would eliminate income taxes.  I would put out a lean and mean annual budget and advise the people that that which  isn’t paid for will not be done – asking for donations.  Make your donations however and whenever you choose, in any amount you choose and signify where you want each dollar to go.  If it is for environment, say so.  If it is for welfare, say so.  If it is for military, say so.  And I would audit that agency collecting the money monthly – and every infraction would land someone on an unemployment line.  All vat’s would be eliminated.  All sales taxes would be eliminated.

Support of the “national need” would be totally and completely voluntary.  Elected officials and the bureaucracy would be paid along the same lines as private industry = and the people would expect the same level of competence.

I would expel the UN from American soil and I would discontinue supporting them with tax dollars.  People who want their tax dollars to go there, could send it directly there.

There would be a totally free and open market and anyone could trade with anyone.  I would call off the drug war which everyone should have known could not be won before it was even passed.  Let any adult buy any drug he chooses whenever he wants it.  It would get drug dealers off the street, it would eliminate a lot of violent crime, and probably would be no more harmful than alcohol.  I would fire the first federal employee approaching people and telling them how to live.  It is NONE of government’s business.
I would bring home all military people and (I owe this statement to poster, slate) task them with routing out terrorists who are currently in the United States.  I would want a fine missile system in lieu of spies and/or military in foreign countries.

I would quit advising other countries what to do, what not to do.  I’d let them do as they pleased, but it would be without our dollars, and if America became threatened, we would deal with it in a fashion costly to them.

There would be no Medicaid or Medicare programs.  People could buy health insurance or not, and if needing help to offset catastrophic illness or injury costs, provide it – case by case.  And I would have to see if the claim was truly legitimate.

There would be no “welfare” programs.  Many new businesses could be formed to keep tabs on jobs available and notify those needing jobs.  Turn a job related to your field down 3 times and you receive no welfare.  Until a job is found, person would be entitled to a monthly stipend that would be sufficient to live on, and in exchange for that, he would perform meaningful public service.

There’s a lot more that I could find to do,  but time and space prevent my putting all of it down.  I, too, contact my representative and senators on a fairly regular basis.  Mostly that seems to be a waste of time, but who knows?  One of them may one day listen.

I am sure you will find some of my thinking too draconian for today’s world, and given so many have gotten so soft and weak, it probably is, but it’s fiscally sound, it gets the job done, and it makes people independent, NOT dependent on government.

By ROBERT J. SAMUELSON Posted 09/29/2009 06:11 PM ET

What’s driving the great health debate of 2009 is not a popular clamor for universal insurance.

“Many Americans are balking again at the prospect of health care reform,” writes pollster Andrew Kohut of the Pew Research Center.

A new Wall Street Journal poll found 41% of respondents opposed to President Obama’s proposals and 39% in favor (the rest were undecided). The underlying driver is politicians’ psychological quest for glory.

“NO QUESTIONS, SIR!” by Gary North, at http://garynorth.com

Date 9/10/2009

I will now make an assertion:

You have no major questions about the economy, unemployment, retirement, inflation, deflation, depression, the possible collapse of the dollar, real estate, or gold.

Am I wrong? Then call my bluff. Send me a question. I’ll answer it.

If you are asking a career decision question, I will need the following information:

Your age Your location Your occupation Your retirement date Your #1 goal in life Deadline date

Then ask your question. Send you question (25 words or fewer) to this address:

garynorth@garynorth.com

Put the word “QUESTION” in the subject box.

I will answer all of them in future issues of this newsletter.

Back in 2005, I offered this service. For a year, I answered questions every other issue. This helped me find out what topics my readers were interested in. Well, a few of my readers, anyway. One-tenth of one percent of my mailing list sent a question. Yes, one out of 1,000.

Nobody else had any questions.

People do not ask questions. There are three main reasons for this.

1. They are the blind being led into a ditch by the blind.

2. They know the answers, and they don’t want to have them confirmed.

3. They just don’t care.

A SHAKY TRESTLE

Our problem is procrastination. Most of our lives are routine. We do not get too far away from a comfortable routine. Most of the time this routine works.

Some people call this being in a rut. Others call it staying on track. Sometimes the trestle is wobbling.

I have no objection to routines. My routine keeps me on track in my rut. But part of my routine is to look down the tracks to see if there is anything out of the ordinary.

Today, the economy is out of the ordinary. The trestle almost collapsed a year ago.

The question is: Will it collapse next time? Also, when might this next time be?

There are signs that the trestle is missing pillars. Every Friday afternoon, after the stock market closes, the FDIC closes five more banks. Investors shrug it off. “No problem.” Then, the next Friday, five more banks get closed. How long can this go on? Not much longer. The number of closings will increase. A man whose firm buys busted banks says that he expects 1,000 banks to close. (http://www.cnbc.com/id/32581463) “No problem.”

Then there is unemployment. Every month, the number of jobs declines by 200,000 or more. The rate of unemployment jumps. Investors immediately buy more shares. Why? Because they see unemployment as a cost-cutting tactic. Therefore, “corporate earnings will go up soon.” They don’t think that an S&P price-earnings ratio of 129 (August 31) is a danger signal. It has never been this high before. It has never reached 50 before. “No problem.” They think that profits will rise to bring the P/E back to something like 15, which would be a buy-and- hold signal.

Then there is the Federal deficit. It will end up on September 30 in the range of $1.6 trillion. The administration has offered an estimate of $9 trillion between now and 2019, meaning $900 billion a year.

Social Security is officially expected to go into the red in 2017. One Congressman thinks this could happen before the next Presidential election. He is on the House Committee for Financial Services.

http://GaryNorth.com/snip/886.htm

When this happens, the Social Security Trust Fund will have to cash in some of its Treasury bonds in order to get money to send to people on the rolls. The Treasury will have to sell enough debt to the public (including the Federal Reserve System) to cover these transactions.

In 2008, Medicare’s Hospital Trust Fund went negative. It received less money from Medicare taxes than it spent. Thus, it had to sell its nonmarketable Treasury bonds back to the Treasury. Its press release admitted that the program was negative, but it spoke of the Trust Fund as solvent. It is solvent legally. It has government-issued IOU’s in it. But not for long.

The Trustees report that Medicare’s Hospital Insurance (HI) Trust Fund will become insolvent earlier in 2019 than reported last year. HI expenditure growth is estimated to average 7.4 percent each year over the next 10 years, a higher rate than either Gross Domestic Product (GDP) or Consumer Price Index (CPI) growth. This year the HI Trust Fund will spend more than its income, and from 2009 through 2017, about $342 billion will need to be transferred from the Federal treasury to cover beneficiaries’ hospital insurance costs.

That’s a nice, precise figure: $342 billion. The key words are these: “will need to be transferred from the Federal treasury.”

From the empty Federal Treasury.

“We need to act quickly and effectively to address Medicare’s fiscal health, including enacting the steps proposed in the President’s budget, which would postpone the insolvency date of the Part A trust fund for ten years,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt. “Congress should also act immediately on the smart changes put forward by the Administration after last year’s funding warning, which would allow the program to be modernized and transformed.”

http://GaryNorth.com/snip/887.htm

I love this phrase: “Congress should also act immediately.”

Congress did nothing except run up the general deficit by another $750 billion (minimum) in October. Then it did it again this spring.

The Medicare hospital insurance program is bankrupt, but nobody in government except Ron Paul uses this word to describe government programs.

CALM IN THE EYE OF THE HURRICANE

Most people know little or none of this. They go through their daily routines. They are oblivious. The government has deliberately disguised these matters. The average citizen thinks that someone at the top has a solution. He cannot conceive of the possibility that experts who run the system are making things up as they go along.

Most of the time the system lumbers along. But then, once in a while — such as a year ago — the system grinds to a halt. Then the response is the same: create money and increase the Federal deficit. The average guy thinks this will solve the problem at no cost to him.

It feels like no cost, but the debt level rises. This year, the Federal deficit has added another $17,000 per household. No one seemed to care. Few even noticed.

http://GaryNorth.com/snip/888.htm

As we watch these things going on around us, and when we perceive that those around us perceive none of this, we remain calm. The calm serenity of those around us calms us, as well. We see the trestle ahead. We see the engine disappear from sight. We suspect what is going to happen to us if we don’t get off the train. But no one around us is moving toward the exit. No one even seems to notice.

The problem is, the trestle has wobbled before. It has looked as though the engine has disappeared, but it always reappears on the far side of the trestle. So, we assume that this time it will not go over the edge into the blackness below.

But there are lots of trestles between here and our final destination.

We are calmed by the calm of those around us. They seem to know what they are doing. Yet they didn’t know a year ago. Henry Paulson was frantic. He nationalized the mortgage market on his own authority exactly one year ago. The markets remained calm. Within weeks, the bailouts of the big banks began. Goldman Sach’s rival, Lehman Brothers Holdings, went bust over a weekend. Merrill Lynch was swallowed by Bank of America.

The underlying causes of the problem, namely, toxic assets, have not gone away. There are lots more of them ahead of us: Alt-A mortgages (liars’ loans), option ARMs (folks too poor even to lie loans), and commercial real estate.

The re-sets will hit families that will not be able to qualify for loans. There are no more liar loans available. Lending standards have tightened over the last year and a half. The loans that were easy to get in 2007 and earlier are now ancient history. The re-sets will mean busted loans. They will end. Some of them will not be replaced. No one knows how many.

The lending agencies will not be able to hide these re-set loans. They die on schedule. They must be replaced. They will not be replaced. The lenders will have expired loans on their books.

The lenders have been playing “let’s pretend” with bad loans. They have not reported these loans as being in default. They have pretended that there is hope to get the owners paying again. A re-set mortgage does not offer wiggle room. Unless the regulators change the rules, these loans will have to be written down as soon as the re-set date arrives.

Example: my son-on-law bought a new home in a nice neighborhood. He bought a bank-foreclosed house in a bank- foreclosed development. It was $100,000 less expensive than a few months before. The houses sold fast because the bank priced the houses to sell. Recently, his next-door neighbor lost his job. He moved back to northern Illinois to get a seasonal job. His wife and family stayed behind. Now she has been laid off. This is not a poor neighborhood. It is middle class.

Unemployment climbs relentlessly. This is having fall-out effects on housing. The summer season for selling houses ended in late August. The reports on home sales will turn negative as the percentage of foreclosure sales increases in relation to total sales.

Yet people in the know are calm. The average Joe is calm until the guy across the street loses his job.

THE IMPLICATIONS

Have you sat down with a pencil and paper to outline your situation?

If you were in the market for a new mortgage, what could you present to the lender to prove that you are a low-risk debtor?

If you were in the market for a new job, how much wiggle room would your finances allow you?

Where are you vulnerable? Your job?

Where is your employer vulnerable?

People assume that corporate management knows what it is doing. Then they are amazed when they are told that their services are no longer needed.

Managers don’t warn people whose jobs are at risk. They hold out hope that a turnaround is imminent. They want to believe that it really is imminent. They don’t want to lose anyone because of a premature warning to him that his job is coming to an end. So, they don’t tell a targeted employee until there is just no wiggle room remaining.

Are you seeing this at your firm? Is there a drip- drip-drip phenomenon going on, the way it is with insolvent banks? If there is, what have you done to see to it that your job is safe? Anything new? If not, you should assume that your job is not safe.

What about your company’s market? Is it stabilizing? Talk to someone in sales. That’s where the first signs of recovery will occur.

Here is a strategy you can quietly use to assess your firm’s line of credit. Which bank is its main lender? You need to know. Once you know, check what the bank is paying on time deposits. If it’s 2% or higher, the bank is probably in trouble. It is offering rates way above the federal funds rate of 0.15% that the Federal Reserve is paying on excess reserves. It is buying time at a loss.

That bank is a candidate for an FDIC take-over. The problem then will be this: a new set of managers will be in charge of rolling over old loans. They will examine every business loan on the dead banks’ books. Your firm may be at risk along with the bank that supplies the credit.

The looming decline of commercial real estate threatens local banks. A recent “Wall Street Journal” article shows why.

In contrast to home loans — the majority of which were made by only 10 or so giant institutions — thousands of small and regional banks loaded up on commercial property debt. As a result, commercial real estate troubles would be even more widespread among the financial system than the housing woes. At the present, more than 3,000 banks and savings institutions have more than 300% of their risk-based capital in commercial real-estate loans.

http://GaryNorth.com/snip/889.htm

When these loans go bad, this will force more of these banks out of business. It will be crunch time for local lines of credit.

CONCLUSIONS

Does any of this raise some questions in your mind?

Have you thought through your answers?

If not, why not?

This morning I received an email from American Future Fund.  It is something most taxpayers will want to read.  It’s chilling.

This is the body of the email:
Last week, we told you how Obama’s tanking approval ratings were hanging like an anvil tied around the ObamaCare legislation, dooming it to a near-certain failure. So, the liberals were quick to adapt, and called it KennedyCare with the hopes of capitalizing on all of the good will and around-the-clock media coverage that engulfed the airwaves for the past few days.
So, why are congressional liberals so hell-bent on passing a wildly unpopular, government-run health care program? Because to them, it’s not even about health care anymore!
House Minority Leader John Boehner has uncovered explosive new revelations. You won’t believe what’s contained within the bill – it’s LOADED with special interest projects!
So, the liberals are desperate to pass their bill so as to bring home more power to the unions, trial lawyers and THIS:

Page 95; Section 205 – The bill directs the “Health Choices Commissioner” to conduct outreach activities, including through the use of outside organizations such as ACORN and others, to reach out and enroll exchange-eligible individuals and employers.
ACORN?! Unreal. Had enough?
How about this little nugget?

Page 53; Section 154 – The bill ensures that the new federal health care program will set a floor (but not a ceiling) for health care negotiations for unionized employers. The legislation cannot be construed to excuse them from good-faith bargaining over health care benefits. Furthermore, it will not permit unionized employers to unilaterally drop health coverage of its employees in favor of shunting them into the government-run plan or simply paying the penalty associated with not offering health care benefits to workers.
Can you believe it?!
With this bill, the liberals are intent on giving everyone power EXCEPT the taxpayers!
While you and I work each day, diligently paying the taxes that will foot this bill, the liberals in Congress have turned this bill into a playground for labor unions!
There’s more – this time it’s a nice kickback for trial lawyers:

Pages 533-551; Section 1412
– The bill requires the Comptroller General of the U.S. to conduct a study examining: “(A) the extent to which corporations that own or operate large numbers of nursing facilities … are undercapitalizing such facilities; (B) the effects of such undercapitalization on quality of care, including staffing and food costs, at such facilities; (C) options to address such undercapitalization, such as requirements relating to surety bonds, liability insurance, or minimum capitalization.” This provision primarily benefits trial lawyers who sue nursing homes.
Have you had enough yet?
This is what the liberals envision as KennedyCare. That’s some legacy to leave him, huh?
No matter how you feel about Sen. Kennedy, naming a pork-laden, special interest bill in his name is just plain wrong.
Yet, congressional liberals will stop at nothing until they can pay back their valued constituencies, no matter what the price – paid by YOU, the taxpayer.
Enough is enough. It’s time to put an end to Obama/Kennedy/GovernmentCare for GOOD.

Corruption, ruthlessness, and Far-Left agenda

Jim O’Neill,  Author at Canada Free Press.com

“Find out just what the people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both.” — Frederick Douglass, civil rights activist, (circa 1818-1895)

One of three possible scenarios is currently being played out in the United States.

Obama Administration is the most corrupt, dishonest, and inept Administration that America

The first option, is simply that the Obama Administration is the most corrupt, dishonest, and inept Administration that America has ever been burdened with.

That is the “best case”  scenario.  Unfortunately, this is the option that I think least likely.

I suppose it is possible that Obama has simply had a phenomenal run of bad luck; that the various bills and laws passed by his Administration have, by some fluke, been accidentally anti-small business, anti-free enterprise, economically suicidal, and have worsened the economic crisis, not ended it.

I might also mention that there has been a, how shall I say this—lackadaisical—attitude towards an American debt of biblical proportions.

Obama Administration despises individual freedom, capitalism, free-enterprise

The second option, is that the Obama Administration despises individual freedom, capitalism, free-enterprise, and is hell-bent on transforming the United States into a fascist/communist collective—a regime that will be run by a venal, ruthless, power-hungry elite.

That actually sounds more plausible to me.

Obama Administration is part of a global restructuring process, New World Order

The third option is, that the Obama Administration is part of a global restructuring process (New World Order), in which the world will be turned into a fascist/communist collective—run by a venal, ruthless, power-hungry elite.

My guess is—take your pick between options two and three.

If you’re surprised by my analysis, then you haven’t been paying attention to what has happened, and is happening, to the United States.

Let me roll out some facts and figures for you.

The SEIU (Service Employees International Union) is run by Andy Stern, a militant Far-Left thug, and Anna Burger, another Far-Left radical.  The SEIU has increased its size and power through, arm-twisting intimidation tactics, and other nefarious means.

Two years ago Obama said before an SEIU rally, “I’ve spent my entire adult life working with SEIU.”

That is not good news.  Once you’ve looked into the corruption, ruthlessness, and Far-Left agenda of the SEIU leadership, you will know that it is not good news at all.

Obama has appointed two stalwart friends of SEIU to high level positions: Kathleen Selibus (D-Kansas) as head of the Department of Health and Human Services, and Hilda Solis to head the Department of Labor.

The SEIU currently has over 2 million members.  most of them are essentially unwilling inductees, but many are “true believers.”

Let’s discuss ACORN.

Wade Rathke, who “cut his teeth” in the Far-Left radical group SDS in the 1960s, founded ACORN, and also SEIU Local 100.  These and numerous other Far-Left groups under the Rathke “umbrella” are funded by our taxpayer dollars.

According to the “Sweetness and Light” website: “ACORN claims more than 400,000 dues-paying member families, and more than 1,200 chapters in 110 U.S. cities.”

And lets not forget the hundreds of “advocacy groups” connected with Acorn: groups such as the WFP (Working Families Party),—which, according to an Associated Press report, was created in 1998 to help push the Democratic Party toward the left.”  (Like they needed the help).

Many of our taxpayer dollars are funneled to various Far-Left organizations which, after the “bosses” get their cut, distribute the money among hundreds, possibly thousands, of groups which advocate the destruction of the United States as a free republic, and the installation of a welfare collective.

That’s not hyperbole folks.  It’s a con game that is going on, and has been going on for years—with the assistance of radical leftist foundations like Arca, and the Tides Foundation.

Some deal, huh?  Collect the money earned by some bourgeois chump, and then spend your time trying to destroy the system that enabled the chump to make the money in the first place.  Sweet!

My point here is that there are already a number of available thugs in place, should the Obama Administration need them.  And we shouldn’t forget AmeriCorp, and the other paramilitary groups getting ready to “muscle up.”

Although I’ve been talking exclusively about the Far-Left influence, I don’t want to be remiss, and forget to mention that greed, corruption, and duplicity are non-partisan vices.  The right-wing has its share of snakes in the grass as well.

I watched a town hall meeting yesterday where Senator McCain was asked a question about Obama disrespecting the U.S. Constitution.  Senator McCain replied, “I’m sure that he respects the Constitution.”

Senator McCain’s comment was booed, and I turned off the TV.  Why are you covering for Obama, John?

How can a person with as many years on Capitol Hill as Senator McCain, say with a straight face, that Obama respects the Constitution.  I guess it takes all those years in Congress, to be able to state such a bald-faced lie with a straight face.

With all due respect to his heroic service record, Senator McCain is either an inattentive dolt, or he thinks that the American public are morons.  I’m not especially fond of either conclusion.

Obama and his ilk have been trying to tear down the Constitution for decades.  It’s an axiom that the Far-Left hates the Constitution, and the liberal-left is no friend to it.  They see it, and have always seen it, as an obstacle to implementing their collectivist social engineering agendas.

An article from “The American Spectator” states that Obama believes that, “The Constitution’s fatal “flaw” is that it set up a limited form of government, far too passive in its understanding of rights to deliver the liberal utopia for which radicals have rooted since the 1960s.”

The Far-Left has an undeniable panache for naming things what they are not.  Calling the government takeover of health care, the “public option,” is one example.  Another gem, is calling the “death by a thousand cuts,” of the U.S. Constitution, the “Living Constitution.”

As Bubba Clinton might have said, “Just how do you define the word—living?”

By the term “living Constitution” the Left means a pliable, moldable, elastic Constitution. A Constitution that can be stretched and formed to mean anything that they want it to mean.  They mean the death of the U.S. Constitution, as it was written by the Founding Fathers.

Instead of a bulwark protecting the American public from government interference, the Constitution will become a means for enacting Draconian laws to oppress the people.  The “living Constitution” means a perverted travesty of the U.S. Constitution.

It’s rapidly coming down to this: either there will be a number of unpatriotic, if not anti-American individuals, who will be tried for treason against the United States, during a time of war—and I believe that the penalty for that is death—or the United States as a free republic, and world power, will perish.

As Abraham Lincoln so eloquently put it, “We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth.”  The time is upon us, and we cannot vacillate any longer.

Don’t buy into the H1N1 crisis

I live in Florida, and we’re used to getting ready for hurricanes.  We buy portable radios, flashlights, and batteries.  We stock up on non-perishable foods, and bottled water.

There is most definitely a “hurricane” coming, and for this storm, you might want to add arms and ammo to your shopping list.

Keep a “weather eye” out for the “Reichstag fire,” and don’t buy into the H1N1 crisis (yes, yet another crisis—yawn), and keep your butt out of any “quarantine camps.”

Godspeed.  And may God bless America.

Dear Friend of the Constitution,

Update on The biggest political cover up in American history

Worse than Watergate, Whitewatergate, or any of the other cover ups of previous administrations, is the question of whether Barack Hussein Obama is eligible to serve as President of the United States of America… OR, is he a FRAUD, a USURPER, a man with no legal authority to sit in the position that he now claims to hold?

Barack Obama could simply put the issue to rest RIGHT NOW by releasing his ACTUAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE! But he WON’T! Instead, he has had teams of attorneys all over the country, fighting “tooth and nail” to thwart the efforts of the United States Justice Foundation (USJF), and our allies in a number of states, to compel him to produce an ACTUAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE and to prove that he is Constitutionally eligible to serve as President of these United States!

Ohio, Mississippi, Hawaii, and California! These are the states where USJF has been involved in lawsuits seeking an answer to this critical constitutional question!

And now, in California, just like in every lawsuit filed over this issue, the Obama team of attorneys, working with liberal allies in the office of California Attorney General Jerry Brown, has convinced a Sacramento County Superior Court judge to dismiss USJF’s suit to force the truth to come out about whether Barack Obama is a “natural born” citizen, and, therefore, eligible to serve as President of the United States.

BUT WE’RE NOT GIVING UP! Our clients in this case, including 2008 candidate for President of the United States, Alan Keyes, have given USJF the go ahead to file an appeal of this decision!

AND THAT’S WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO — BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP TO DO IT!

A number of apologists for Barack Obama have gone to great lengths to belittle USJF and our allies in the fight to preserve our Constitution. However, the questions that they cannot answer are: continue reading…

Edward Kennedy Serve America Act
H.R. 1388, Public Law 111-13
This bill has been signed into law, but still requires funding to the tune of 5.7 billion dollars over 6 years.

An annual luncheon is held in Waco, Texas each year honoring volunteers through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, a nation wide program authorized by the federal government. Approximately 600 volunteers from six counties with a combined population of 339,784 were in attendance May 30, 2009 for the annual recognition luncheon. Most of them have been volunteering service, time, energy, and money for many years.

Congressman Chet Edwards always attends this event, ostensibly to show his support for the senior citizens who do the volunteer work, but I have no doubt that he has no interest in senior citizens volunteerism aside from the political capital he hopes to earn by attending the annual luncheon as well as the votes he can get from these seasoned citizens who believe he is merely grateful for their service.

This bill would “reward” this service by awarding, in the volunteer’s name, a scholarship of $1000.00 per year to a college student per volunteer who donates at least 325 hours of volunteer work within their community.  Please bear in mind that these scholarships will not be paid for by Rep. Edwards nor Sen. Kennedy.  They get the publicity, the taxpayer gets the bill.

No one thinks scholarships are bad things. No one thinks volunteerism is a bad thing. No one thinks rewards are bad things.

On the other hand, this bill, on its face, is a horrible bill, all pork, all to get democrats elected and to assure they stay elected. There is no other rationale for this pitiful attempt at pork gouging.

Part of the explanation of the bill states that:
the goal of expanding 75,000 government-supported volunteers to 250,000, and would increase education funding and establish a summer volunteer program for students, paying $500 (which would be applied to college costs) to high-school and middle-school student who participate. Need I explain how much this might cost us, the taxpayers? It will be a bundle, accomplishing nothing, dumbing us down even farther than we already are, and a disincentive for some of the best volunteers, who see this as I see it — POLITICS and nothing more; politics which work against my best interest and which I will not support in any way.

It is not about volunteerism — there are already numerous volunteers who cheerfully donate time and energy — I DO!  Actually these “rewards” are an insult to the sincere volunteer. I am a volunteer. I do it for the clients and I do it for me. I do not want taxpayer’s dollars for doing this volunteer work, even if the US Treasury were fulll  I certainly don’t want it now that the nation is broke, bankrupt. We all know the only money the government has is what it takes from us, the taxpayers. Tying these scholarships to RSVP is nothing more than a ruse to make it sound good from all sides, dressed up somewhat like a pig with the lipstick on. It strikes me that this is a simple ruse to fool simple people, and that makes me even madder. If the goal is to pass out taxpayer money for kids to go to college to learn collectivist propaganda, let it be known that as a volunteer I refuse to give them the cover for stealing your money by “giving it away in my name”. I assure you I WILL be talking about this with everyone I meet.

It is way past time these crooks in Congress are totally exposed for what they really are — greedy narcissists with the whore’s mentality of always having the hand outstretched … not to shake, but to accept money. They don’t care about the ‘children’, the aged, the infirm, the minority, their own constituency, or you or me. WAY PAST TIME FOR TERM LIMITS. One term only. One term only. One term only.

Our region’s RSVP offices are housed at McLennan Community College and the staff is friendly and helpful.  Unfortunately, I am afraid they are not seeing this for what it is.  This luncheon for volunteers is every bit as much about Chet Edwards and the Democrat Party as it is the volunteers.  This is a political function disguised as a “thank you”, but I don’t really believe the local RSVP staff realizes that.  Surely someone at the college realizes it.  I, for one, resent it.  How tragic that our country has come to this.

Every Congressman swears an oath to “…preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” To a casual observer, these words could be interpreted to mean that laws enacted by Congress should be consistent with the requirements of the Constitution. To the majority of Congress, these words mean something else, or have no meaning…

StrikerHR 450, the Enumerated Powers Act will require constitutional certification.  WOW!

“Each Act of Congress shall contain a concise and definite statement of the constitutional authority relied upon for the enactment of each portion of that Act.”

And a great article, fully sourced, no ranting, actions to take and contact lists, everything we need.
This gets a reshout, and hope you will too!

Walter E. Williams :: Townhall.com Columnist
Our Problem is Immorality
by Walter E. Williams

Most of our nation’s great problems, including our economic problems, have as their root decaying moral values. Whether we have the stomach to own up to it or not, we have become an immoral people left with little more than the pretense of morality. You say, “That’s a pretty heavy charge, Williams. You’d better be prepared to back it up with evidence!” I’ll try with a few questions for you to answer.

Do you believe that it is moral and just for one person to be forcibly used to serve the purposes of another? And, if that person does not peaceably submit to being so used, do you believe that there should be the initiation of some kind of force against him? Neither question is complex and can be answered by either a yes or no. For me the answer is no to both questions but I bet that your average college professor, politician or minister would not give a simple yes or no response. They would be evasive and probably say that it all depends.

In thinking about questions of morality, my initial premise is that I am my private property and you are your private property. That’s simple. What’s complex is what percentage of me belongs to someone else. If we accept the idea of self-ownership, then certain acts are readily revealed as moral or immoral. Acts such as rape and murder are immoral because they violate one’s private property rights. Theft of the physical things that we own, such as cars, jewelry and money, also violates our ownership rights.

The reason why your college professor, politician or minister cannot give a simple yes or no answer to the question of whether one person should be used to serve the purposes of another is because they are sly enough to know that either answer would be troublesome for their agenda. A yes answer would put them firmly in the position of supporting some of mankind’s most horrible injustices such as slavery. After all, what is slavery but the forcible use of one person to serve the purposes of another? A no answer would put them on the spot as well because that would mean they would have to come out against taking the earnings of one American to give to another in the forms of farm and business handouts, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps and thousands of similar programs that account for more than two-thirds of the federal budget. There is neither moral justification nor constitutional authority for what amounts to legalized theft. This is not an argument against paying taxes. We all have a moral obligation to pay our share of the constitutionally mandated and enumerated functions of the federal government.

Unfortunately, there is no way out of our immoral quagmire. The reason is that now that the U.S. Congress has established the principle that one American has a right to live at the expense of another American, it no longer pays to be moral. People who choose to be moral and refuse congressional handouts will find themselves losers. They’ll be paying higher and higher taxes to support increasing numbers of those paying lower and lower taxes. As it stands now, close to 50 percent of income earners have no federal income tax liability and as such, what do they care about rising income taxes? In other words, once legalized theft begins, it becomes too costly to remain moral and self-sufficient. You might as well join in the looting, including the current looting in the name of stimulating the economy.

I am all too afraid that a historian, a hundred years from now, will footnote America as a historical curiosity where people once enjoyed private property rights and limited government but it all returned to mankind’s normal state of affairs — arbitrary abuse and control by the powerful elite.

It’s a good video to show where the money goes, but…

But “take your money back” ?? Good luck, once you have paid it, it’s gone and “it ain’t never coming back”. If you don’t pay your money for taxes along with your purchases, you’re not gonna be able to buy much to maintain your life — it is all taxed multiple times before you even see it. Try getting your cart-full out of Walmart without paying the taxes.

We must first understand the morality of true unfettered freedom and personal choice, which means refusing to accept for force imposed by collectivism, Think “refuse”, “strike”, “revolt”.

Building anything begins with a proper foundation, which in life is a rational moral code. America is lost because objective morality is set aside in favor of the immorality of Force. That’s why we have Governments, to apply force and theft by taxation which is “legal” only via Goverment.

By purporting to make our decisions for us, Government denies the sanctity of the individual mind, usurping that to whom? Some OTHER individual? Those Other Individuals join into gangs called Congress, Legislature, Board, Council, each with a “Leader” called President or Governor or Chairman or Mayor.

All supported by Taxes, taken by Force right from your pocket.

Morality101 is here to offer alternatives.  Look around while you’re here.
